How to Become a More Productive Blogger

Today we want to learn how to become a more productive blogger.

Here are some warning signs that should tell you your productivity as a blogger is declining and you urgently need to take action to remedy the situation.

  • You keep procrastinating on all the necessary tasks
  • You’re losing interest in creating content
  • Email marketing is becoming a chore for you
  • Weeks go by without you writing, let alone, publishing any new blog posts
  • You’re spending too much time on social media
  • Research is all you’re doing. No tangible actions
  • You enjoy watching what other bloggers are doing and earning. Especially the very successful ones.
  • The greater part of your day is spent customizing your theme, sampling plugins and the rest.
  • Some of the challenges you face are so daunting that you constantly feel like giving up

A successful blogger remains productive despite the difficulties all bloggers face but only a few survive. This is why I want to share with you how I’ve learned to become a more productive blogger.

1. Take action consistently

Consistency here means focusing on a strategy and making sure you keep applying action till the desired results begin to appear.

For instance, if your strategy is to build an email list that will deliver you affiliate marketing success, then you must find a way to keep implementing the details of your plan for a while.

The opposite is to try it today, look for results the next day and if there are none, you give up or shift to a new strategy.

That definitely is not consistency.

And trust me, sporadic shifts in action and focus will lead you nowhere. It is persistent, consistent action that eventually brings in what you want.

2. Do not allow distractions to steal your time

There are too many little shiny objects flying all around us crying for attention.

Here is an example for you.

If you’ve been using the Google search engine to research a topic you’re working on, you will agree with me that the distractions are simply overwhelming.

Before you know it, you’ve digressed to places that have nothing to do with your goals for the day.

One effective way to tackle distractions is to develop the habit of saying no to whatever is not going to help you complete the task at hand.

3. Design an action-focused strategy

If it is affiliate marketing you want to use to monetize your blog, come up with a strategy for it.

Aspects of this affiliate marketing strategy could be the affiliate network or program you will use, the specific products or services you want to promote on your blog and the type of links you will add to your posts.

You must also not forget the affiliate marketing plugins you need and how you’re going to promote the affiliate products.

By this, I mean, will you prefer product review posts, list posts or product comparison posts?

The wonderful thing about having a strategy or an action plan is that it restricts your natural tendency to digress and try other things not helpful to your objectives.

4. Have a very short daily to-do list

To help you become a more productive blogger, you need a simple to-do list. Don’t make it too loaded and complicated.

A tall to-do list has the potential to make you digress easily from your main activity. So avoid burdening yourself with that kind of to-do list.

Tell yourself to do only a few tasks that really matter as you try to implement your strategy.

5. Prioritize your tasks

The to-do list I’ve just mentioned should help you decide what must be top of the agenda for the day. With focused commitment, you will end the day feeling good about what you’ve been able to achieve. Remember it is single productive days that will accumulate into a productive year.

6. Set deadlines

Deadlines work like magic for anyone who wants to become a more productive blogger. Because, the moment you begin to delay action and waste time on things that don’t matter, your calendar will be there to flash the red light.

7. Use simple productivity tools/apps

Technology can help you become a more productive blogger. A WordPress plugin like Yoast SEO will help you work faster on your search engine optimization tasks as you get ready to publish new content. Another tool is Thirsty Affiliates which I personally use to easily implement my affiliate marketing side of things.

8. Ask someone to keep you accountable.

I think that’s what they call accountability partners, right? Whatever partner you decide to call them, just make sure you get one.

I suggest you get someone who can be really hard on you. It should be the kind of person who would keep you on your toes when it comes to being consistent in implementing your plan or your to-do list.

9. Give yourself a time frame to see results.

This will keep you motivated and focused. It sounds very much like the earlier advice about deadlines. But there’s a slight difference.

Note that this one is about a time frame. Say, within two weeks or during the first quarter of the new year. Deadlines, on the other hand, have to do with specific target dates for the completion of an action.

Remember to post it somewhere that it literally confronts you whichever way you turn in the house, room or office.

This way, you will quickly run away from any temptation to take a road that leads you to the wrong destination.

10. Place value on the learnt skills

Remind yourself constantly of the valuable skills you can learn just by being consistent with your actions.

Personally, there is so much I’ve gained just by learning to develop consistency in blogging.

There are times when I plan to publish ten blog posts for my clients and four more for my own blogs within a week. Now, because, I’ve learnt to focus and hit such targets regularly, it becomes second nature to me.

More importantly, it has developed in me a certain level of self-discipline which is another vital ingredient to help anyone become a more productive blogger.

11. Reject small talk

And other time-wasting activities. Luckily, small talk is something almost every introverted blogger hates. And many bloggers are introverts. Including me. But don’t worry if you’re an extrovert. You can learn to say no to the temptation to engage in conversations that will not lead you to your desired blogging goals. Postpone the small talk, if you will, each time you need to work on your online writing business.

Conclusion

The best reason to become a more productive blogger is that it’ll accelerate the growth of your online writing business.

Try these tips which I’ve personally used to make me become a more productive online writer. I know for certain that you’ll benefit greatly from them if you have the desire to become a super-productive blogger.
